Susan “Susie” Kosovic opened her initially boutique on Yonge Street in Toronto in 1964 and was featured on the cover of McLean’s magazine in 1966, the initially Canadian designer to be featured on the cover of McLean’s. She was referred to in the magazine report as “Canada’s Mary Quant, but with her personal thing” by Vidal Sassoon. Inside a handful of years, she had 3 retailers in Toronto, which includes 1 in Yorkville, 1 in the Le Cartier apartment constructing in downtown Montreal, and a boutique in the Hudson Bay Co. retailer in Winnipeg. In 1969, Kosovic started to style a Unisex line for the Fairweather division retailer chain and through the mid 70s opened a retailer named “John Alexander”, at this point working with Susie Hayward as her name. She went on to have a lengthy lasting profession in the style market.
